Last day...

And so to my final event...after the previous day's rhythmic gymnastics with the highlight being one of the Australian competitors performing her routine to a remix of 'The Prodigy'!

I kid you not! The cheery sound of Smack My B*tch Up! blasting around the IG Sports Complex is somewhat surreal!

Off to the marathon at 6am...for the sunrise at India Gate and a double Kenyan victory in the Men's and Women's events.

The home straight...

The last few days have fused into a blur of running, throwing and jumping.
The humidty of the JN Stadium are now behind me and it's time for rhythmic gymnastics...woo hoo!!! A cornucopia of ropes, balls, ribboons and hoops...

PHOTOS!!!!

After a few barren days photowise, I now have some more uploads for you.

I've finally managed to get them from Dan's hard drive....

1) Posing in the evening sunshine near India Gate

2) Looking cool on the steps at the Jama Masjid shrine with Dan

3) Enjoying celebrity status (i'm guessing a bald, white Englishman is something of a novelty in these parts!)

4) Looking on as Dan sports the latest range of 'Beckham sarongs'

Day 5 & 6 - Athletics

Another day has passed and it's back at the track.
An English 1-2-3 in the Men's 110 Metres Hurdles was a highlight, the crowds are starting to increase which means the volume has risen everytime an Indian athlete hits the field.
Jo Jackson wiggled to English gold this morning in the 20 km race walk.

Day 4 - Athletics

Welcomed to the JN Stadium, by an infestation of tiny moths (I thought they were supposed to be nocturnal?!?!). Anyway, a real pain in the *rse...
It's the 100 Metres Final tonight - come on Mark Lewis-Francis (if he makes it through his semi final that is).

Day 3 - Athletics

Back to the JN Stadium for the first day of atheltics. Maintenance on the track and infield was completed with moments to spare. However, it didn't hinder Mark Lewis-Francis, as he comes through his heat unscathed.

Come into the light

As well as various beetles , moths and flies bothering us at the opening ceremony, this picture (courtesy of Dan) shows the multitude of bug life around the JN Stadium.

Its the Pinky Ponk...

The overwhelming excitement of 53kg women grunting and groaning...

Day 2 - Weightlifting

Another day of weightlifting here at the JN Sports Complex, although the spirits have been lifted by the sounds of Rick Astley, Carl 'Kung Foo Fighting' Douglas, the Bangles and the Bee Gees, playing over the stadium PA!
Time to cheer on Jo Calvino of England in the Women's 53kg class...GO JO GO!!

Day 1 - Weightlifting

The first day of competition and it's off to the Women's 48kg and Men's 56kg weightlifting finals.
Expect copius amounts of puffing, panting, grunting and straining from the infamous (the roof that fell in) arena. All seems OK overhead so far...

Around Rashtrapathi Bhavan

...which is the estate of the Indian President.

..and finally for September 29th, the Jama Masjid shrine.

Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium

A view of the venue which will host the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the athletics competition...home to Dan and I for a week or so.

A chance to sample the sights, sounds and smells of this chaotic city- wandering the back streets with Julian and Dan we were able to witness everyday life of people in South Delhi.
